Do You Plan Tomorrow Today?

If not, you should start right now.

This strategy has changed my life.

If you are like me, you are really bad at staying focused and getting the important things done.

But then again…it’s not me [or you] it’s our systems.

The things that may not be very fun, but they are the things that will move your business or life forward.

Change / growth / success do not happen overnight.

Nor do they happen over a weekend.

They take years of consistent small actions to manifest.

Small daily habits, routines, and tasks are what will create your dream life.

Okay…you kind of knew that, but HOW do we implement?!

Consistency is so hard to teach. Instead, you must clearly understand what you are doing and why.

Once you understand those two things, you can reverse engineer your goal / vision / dream life.

For example: what is your 90-day goal?

Now, what weekly goals would lead you there?

Now, what are the top 3 things you need to do tomorrow?

Ignore the rest.

It will only distract you.

Now for the interesting question: if you completely ignored your goals and focused only on your system, would you still succeed? For example, if you were a basketball coach and you ignored your goal to win a championship and focused only on what your team does at practice each day, would you still get results?

I think you would.

The goal in any sport is to finish with the best score, but it would be ridiculous to spend the whole game staring at the scoreboard. The only way to actually win is to get better each day. In the words of three-time Super Bowl winner Bill Walsh, “The score takes care of itself.” The same is true for other areas of life. If you want better results, then forget about setting goals. WorkFlowy is… the most underwhelming app you’ll ever see, yet your entire life can fit on it.

At the end of every day, I close out all my open tabs except for Workflowy.

I go through my top 5 and see what I can move up to my top 3.

Then I go through my remaining tasks and see what I can move up to my top 5.

The Top 3 are the MOST important tasks of the day.

If I get those done, the day was a success.

If I want to do more, I dip into my bottom 5.
